The two largest satellite services have different parental controls that you can use.

DirecTV:

DirecTV’s Locks and Limits feature allows you to block by MPAA ratings, specific movies, and entire channels, as well as to set limited viewing times and establish spending limits on Pay-Per-View.

  • Press the menu button on your remote, select Profiles, and look for the selections which indicate Rating Limit, Lock User, Viewing Hours or Spending Limit.
  • Follow the easy-to-understand on-screen directions, which vary by receiver.
  • After setting up, you can easily access the programming you like by entering your PIN.

DISH Network:

DISH Network subscribers must use the v-chip to block television programs according to their rating. Additionally, you can block adult channels using their Adult Guard feature, found in the Locks menu.
