TV Watch A Growing Force For Parental Control Of The Remote

The Organization Welcomes the Independent Women’s Forum to its Coalition
October 18, 2007

Charleston, SC — TV Watch is proud to announce the addition of a new organization to its coalition, the Independent Women’s Forum, which believes in limited government and promotes strong family life. The IWF joins the coalition, which includes other great organizations such as the Americans for Tax Reform and The Creative Coalition.

“The addition of the IWF to our coalition highlights the diverse backgrounds of the organizations TV Watch represents,” says Jim Dyke, Executive Director of TV Watch. “Creating new partnerships continues to be important as more and more Americans recognize that government censorship is not the solution—instead, the real answer is educating parents about the information and tools already available to keep them in control of the remote,” Dyke said.

Independent Women’s Forum

The Independent Women's Forum is a non-partisan, non-profit organization. Founded in 1992, IWF’s mission is to rebuild civil society by advancing economic liberty, personal responsibility, and political freedom. IWF fosters greater respect for limited government, equality under the law, property rights, free markets, strong families, and a powerful and effective national defense and foreign policy. IWF is home to the next wave of the nation’s most influential scholars—women who are committed to promoting and defending economic opportunity and political freedom.

"We are lucky to live in a time when there is so much variety in the media. We have tremendous educational programs as well as great entertainment--but that means that there is a lot of material that's not appropriate for children. It may be tempting to have the government try to regulate away unsavory content, but--in addition to violating the concept of free speech--it would create as many problems as it solves and would have serious unintended consequences. Luckily there are technologies that are designed to help parents police what their children can see. But of course, parents themselves are their children's best defense. It's up to parents to monitor what their children watch and to turn off the television." - Carrie Lukas, IWF Vice President of Policy & Economics
